Welcome to A Teaspoon of Healing!
Hello and welcome! I’m so excited to begin this journey with you! This blog is the companion to the podcast, A Teaspoon of Healing. In this blog, I will expand on topics discussed on the podcast, as well as share many other exciting things with you! This will include book reviews, nutritional topics, healthy lifestyle habits and what I am learning in school. Going back to school as an “older” adult, aka a “returning student” is a humbling experience, but I’ve loved every second of it. I’d like to share some of that journey with you, too! Maybe one of you has dreamed about going back to school but wondered what it is like as a career-changer or adult student. Well, I’m here to tell you all about it!
I spent over twelve years in corporate America as a web content manager, editor and UX designer. It was rewarding, but when I had my two kids back to back, I wasn’t able to keep up with the long hours and travel demands of that career. Thankfully, I was fortunate enough to be able to scale back and become a home-based freelance writer, which allowed me plenty of time with my children when they were babies and toddlers. I also dabbled in community radio and a few other things, but I’ve shifted gears after a few health scares in my family and friendship circle woke me up. I made a lot of lifestyle changes and decided to pursue my true passion, which is health care!
I’m currently taking science and math pre-requisites at a community college and I’m preparing to apply to Master’s programs. Let me tell you, as a Journalism and English major and a bona-fide “math phobe,” this has been challenging, but ultimately, lots of fun. I enjoy science very much, and while math has never been my strong point, I now have an appreciation for it that I didn’t when I was younger.
As you will notice, I’m a bit quiet about what programs I’m applying to, because I don’t know where I will be accepted! PA (physician assistant) school and nutrition both interest me greatly, as well as a more functional, holistic approach to medicine. So, I decided to go for all of the above! While taking the required pre-reqs and racking up hours, I am also certifying as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner at the Nutritional Therapy Institute. It has been eye-opening! To combine this with the hard science I have been learning is fascinating. I hope to continue down this road, walking the line between Western, traditional medicine and functional, holistic, integrative healing.
I’m so glad you are here to join me on this journey! To your health!!
